Back in Sölöz

Turkey, a village, today. A French filmmaker of Armenian descent returns to his roots. Four times over three decades, director and actor Serge Avédikian has returned to Sölöz, the village of his grandparents, located 170 km south of Istanbul. From these successive returns between 1987 and 2019 emerged a powerful film about identity, historical truth, and reconciliation.

What a mess!

Constantinople, 1910. Too many stray dogs roam the city streets. The newly established government, influenced by a Western model of society, consults European experts on ways to get rid of them before unilaterally deciding to deport 30,000 dogs to a deserted island off the coast. Through the dual perspectives of a mother dog who has just given birth and the policeman who cages her, we follow the forced exile of these dogs, most of whom will die of hunger and thirst.
